Safe Place

Safe Place is a ministry of Grace Church to protect the children entrusted to our care. Since 2011, Grace has been training and screening volunteers who work with children, to ensure they are safe from abuse while in our care.

Since 2015, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has required background screening for those working with children. Grace's policy reflects those changes but also has additional requirements - such as a six month membership rule before new members may supervise children. The current requirements are as follows:

Paid staff must have copies of

1) PA State Police Criminal History Check;

2) PA Child Abuse Clearance Check; and

3) Federal Criminal Background Check.

Volunteers (age 18 and over) will need to present:

1) PA State Police

2) PA Child Abuse

3) Either a Federal Criminal Background Check OR an affidavit certifying that they have resided within Pennsylvania for the previous ten consecutive years and have not been arrested for or convicted of any Reportable Offense.

Each Form is good for three years only and then will need to be resubmitted. The Child Abuse, PSP and FBI clearances can all be applied and paid for electronically. The federal clearance also requires a fingerprint submission. All necessary instructions and links to apply for these clearances can be found at:

For the Federal Clearance, it is necessary to register online then take the form and a required ID to The UPS Store at 3440 Lehigh Street in Allentown (near the Emmaus side of Perkins at South Mall.)
