The Greens

The hanging of the greens at
Christmas is symbolic
of peace. Evergreens remind us of God's eternal love
for us, the love that sent His only son to earth to be
born of Mary to redeem the world from sin. The Laurel
and Bay symbolize victory and triumph; the yew and
cypress, eternal life. Mistletoe although poisonous, is
commonly associated with the passion and frivolity of
romantic love. Christians have come to see the prickly
leaves of the Holly bush as reminiscent of the Crown
of Thorns Christ wore at his passion and its red berries
remind us of the drops of blood shed for us at Calvary.
