Lights and Candles

Lights have long been a part of the Christmas
tradition. A custom in many European homes and a
familiar one in our community is to place a single candle
in the window to light the way of the coming Christ Child.

Christians light candles to recall that light came into the
world with the birth of Jesus Christ. We no longer live in
the grip of darkness and death. Our light has come, our
atonement is complete in Jesus Christ.

"Let your light so shine before all the people", Jesus told
his disciples. "you are the light of the world." Jesus
wanted his followers to be an example of goodness and
love. Christmas is not only a time for exchanging gifts
among family and friends but it is a time of great
generosity to those in need.
